CVS will hire 15,000 employees to support expected increase of flu, COVID-19 cases

    CVS Health announced on Monday that they were expecting an influx of new employees to make up for the expected rise in flu and COVID-19 cases bound to make their way for the pharmacies.

    Most of the roles will be full- and part-time licensed pharmacy technicians. Those 10,000 slots reserved for such roles are "vital to administering COVID-19 tests," the company said according to Fox News.

    Technicians are typically responsible for processing prescriptions, dispensing medications, and providing information to customers and healthcare professionals along with some administrative duties.

    The technician roles are anticipated to be temporary with the possibility of permanence once flu season is over.

    There will be an additional 5,000 employees hired on top of the licensed pharmacy technicians.

    The company will also be seeking on-site pharmacists, nurses, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, member benefit case professionals, and distribution center employees.

    The company plans to fill the roles "as soon as possible" to increase the support in various locations.

    The company typically onboards extra hands during the winter months when flu season is in full swing. "However, we're estimating a much greater need for trained pharmacy technicians this year given the continued presence of COVID-19 in our communities," CVS Health chief human resources officer Lisa Bisaccia said in a statement.
